The2010 Geneva Auto Showis showcasing some incredible green machines, with scores of auto manufacturers includingPorscheandLotusrolling out fuel-efficient vehicles. The latest to step up to the plate isFerrari, which just unveiled its first hybrid: the 599 HY-KERS. Designed as a “laboratory car” that brings Ferrari’s latest racing technology to the streets, the vehicle features a 100hp motor linked to akinetic energy recovery systemtaken straight from last year’s Formula One program.

Plans to Release the Chevy Volt Early Hit a Speedbump

General Motor’s Chairman and CEO Ed Whitacre has been pushing hard for an early roll-out of theChevy Volt, GM’s extended-range electric car. GM was planning to release a small number ofthe vehiclesbefore the official November release date, however the company is concerned that the vehicles aren’t ready, and releasing imperfect Volt’s could result in apublic relations nightmare. The main concern is thatvehiclesreleased before the November date may need the usualtweaking that carsneed in the last stage of development, causing owners to have to turn their cars in for updates. No official announcement has been made.

Although it’s not particularly known for its autos, Hungary is taking a stab at theelectric vehicle marketwith a futuristic newsolar-electric car. Founded by auto enthusiasts and backed by local investors, the Hungarian companyAntro, is working on a prototype for a modular car that is capable of splitting into two separate vehicles. Withsolar panelson the roof, the three passenger Antro Solo can run up to 20 km per day on solar energy alone.

Audi ‘Green Police’ Superbowl Commercial Debuts Early

Audi has jumped the gun early on their ‘eco-themed’ Super Bowl commercial by releasing it onto the web a full 24 hours before the big game.As we dropped earlier, the advertising campaign features an enforcement agency called the “Green Police”; who, naturally, patrol the streets looking for environmental crimes like drinking bottled water and/or failure to compost.

The point of the commercial is to advertise Audi’s A3 TDI (Green Car Journal’s“Green Car of the Year” winner) which runs on clean diesel and achieves 42 mpg on the highway.
