We’ve written about thepossibilities that carbon nanotubes can unlockbefore, and now, an intrepid team ofMITscientists have discovered a never before known phenomenon using the tubes, which are essentially rolled up sheets of graphene. The occurence, which researchers are calling “thermopower waves” causes powerful waves of energy to speed down the tubes. Michael Strano, MIT’s Charles and Hilda Roddey Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering says that the discovery “opens up a new area of energy research, which is rare,” andaccording to MIT, the new development could pave the road to a totallynew way of producing electricity.

The Carbon Diaries 2015is a futuristic story set in London about one girl’s struggles in a world affected by climate change. The heroine of the story, 16-year-old Laura Brown, documents life in Great Britain after it became the first country to try carbon rationing. The book’s sequelThe Carbon Diaries 2017picks up the story two years later as the government is forced to tighten its grips on carbon rationing. Similar toHarry Potter, Laura Brown has developed a cult-like following among teenagers.

Depp was in negotiations to produce the film but was turned down because Lloyd wanted the film to be set in the UK rather than the US. “Much as I loveJohnny Deppand it was a wrench, it was a ‘maybe later, Jonny,’” said Lloyd. “These books are really about London. It’s a heightened reality, but the idea is it’s close to things that could really happen.”
