8 Tallet: Green-Roofed Eco Village Opens in Denmark

Ørestad is an emerging neighborhood in Copenhagen that is redefining 21st century living. At the heart of the development is8 Tallet(or 8 House), a progressive apartment complex that is a small neighborhood in itself. The idea is that localizing services for residences — something large, dense cities take for granted — can be incorporated in new developments from the start. Designed byBjarke Ingels Group(BIG), the complex features a gorgeous green roof, is oriented to make the most of available daylight, and is still just a 12 min train ride to downtown.

Avatar Release To Kick Off Million Tree Planting Initiative

While we’re not sureif anything about the DVD itself will be green, we’re happy to announce that Twentieth Century Fox isn’t just using Earth Day as it’s marketing bitch forAvatar. At a press conference today, the studio and its billion-dollar directorJames Cameronannounced a partnership with theEarth Day Networkto plant one million trees in honor of the film by the end of 2010.

“I am pleased to have the opportunity to share the environmental messages fromAVATARthrough the efforts during the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day and with Earth Day Network,” said James Cameron. “Earth Day Network’s commitment and actions to promote a healthy, sustainable planet go hand-in-hand with the themes ofAVATAR.”

The non-profit, which is committed to caring for and nurturing the trees to maturity, will plant native species in more than 15 different countries. Natural disasters such as fires and landslides will also be considered during the planting process.

AVATARsends a universal message about the danger of exploiting our natural resources and brings to the forefront of the global consciousness the need to protect our planet and humanity, said Kathleen Rogers, President, Earth Day Network. “We hope this commitment from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment to plant one million trees, will inspire others to stand up against climate change for Earth Day.”

Summit On The Summit Success! Celebs Reach Top Of Mt. Kilimanjaro!

Roughly two hours ago, a team of celebrities and supporters successfully tweeted (how’s that for 21st century exploring?) that they had reached the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

The trek, which started last Thursday, covers more than 50 miles and includes stars likeEmile Hirsch, Jessica Biel, Lupe Fiasco, Isabel Lucas, andElizabeth Gore. The goal is to raise awareness of the worldwide water crisis.
