Human rights organization,Survival International, has taken out an ad inVarietymagazine pleading withJames Cameronto help the Dongria Kondh tribe of Orissa, India. The organization points to similarities between the Na’vi inAvatarand the Dongria Kondh.

“Just as the Na’vi describe the forest of Pandora as ‘their everything,’ for the Dongria Kondh, life and land have always been deeply connected,” says Survival International’s director Stephen Corry. “The fundamental story ofAvatar– if you take away the multi-coloured lemurs, the long-trunked horses and warring androids – is being played out today in the hills of Niyamgiri in Orissa, India.”

Survival International, which was established in 1969 and campaigns for the rights of indigenous tribal people, is hoping to get the attention of the award winning director by explaining that, “Avataris fantasy… and real.”

In the advertisement, Cameron is asked to watch a 10 minute film about the Dongria’s plight. Check it out below!

Lindsay Lohan May Become Immortal

December 9th, 2009 by Editor

Lindsay LohanIt’s been widely reported that Hindu leaders have urgedLindsay Lohanto take a swim in the Ganges to cleanse herself of her personal problems.

Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed says that she “should make use of her trip to India to rediscover herself by spending some time in an ashram and taking a dip in the holy Ganges. It is believed that bathing in the sacred Ganges purifies one of all sin, and its water, if taken daily, confers immortality.” Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, points out that an ashram stay would also help bring Lohan “tranquility, spirituality and serenity”.

She’s just landed in India to work with the BBC on a documentary but its exact content seem to be somewhat unclear…human trafficking? Poverty? We’ll let you know.

It’s interesting to note that she’s working with the BBC after its own standards boardrecently ruledthat crude jokes made on one of their shows about her sexuality and her relationship with Samantha Ronson reinforced negative lesbian stereotypes and constituted “institutional indecency.” I’m personally glad that they took some responsibility. Just in case anyone was interested…

The Green Quote: Deepak Chopra On The “Green” White House Dinner

November 29th, 2009 by Editor

Deepak Chopra“Celebrity chef Marcus Samuelson, brought in from New York and his sophisticated roost at Aquavit, offered a wonderful selection of vegetarian dishes like chick pea and okra dahl, another stroke of cultural empathy (perhaps the most powerful one of the evening, given the Indian nostalgia for the food we were raised on). There was room for regional American foods like collard greens and cornbread (found in India, too — did they know?) It was all prepared in a way that Dr. Dean Ornish would approve of, and aligned to Michelle Obama’s message of sustainability. The Obama administration actually understands that future prosperity must come through a green economy, not in spite of it.”

-Deepak Chopraon the “green” nature of the The White House’s state dinner, its first of the new administration, which honored Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. From his blog atIntent.com.
