Some of of the greatest social and environmental challenges are focused around the issue of reproductive rights. Italian-basedFAREstudioscreated a brilliant architectural solution to the issue by developing a refuge and Women’s health clinic in a poor suburb of Ouagadougou,Burkina Fasoin West Africa. The complex is a a new type of care center that provides health and social resources for women in impoverished communities using a site-appropriatesustainable architecturemodel. The Woman’s Clinic provides an important lesson in integrated design, which led it to be honored as a finalist for the 2010Aga Khan Award for Architecture.

SNL Makes Fun Of Toyota’s Not-So-Funny Problem

We’re a little late to the game on this one, but Saturday Night Live last weekend made a funny (but in a sick way) skit about the Toyota Prius’ break issue. As expected, it features a couple enjoying nature and then getting into their Toyota Prius, only to have it accelerate out of control.

I myself have heard the 911 call from the family that died last summer in a car that suffered from an acceleration issue — so the humor is kind of lost on me. Nevertheless, I did chuckle a bit at the end of the skit when the tagline was revealed. So, shame on me. Check it out below:
