March 8th, 2010 by Editor

Last night,The Cove, a documentary which details the annual killing of dolphins in a National Park at Taiji, Wakayama, in Japan, took home the 2010 Best Documentary Academy Award and we couldn’t be happier!

Earlier this week, we reportedthatBen Stillerwas pulling for the film, saying, “If the movie wins, it will make a huge difference. I’m pulling for it for sure.” Of course,Hayden Panettiere, who appears in the film, was also crossing her fingers for The Coveand recently promoted it inSELF Magazine.

In his acceptance speech,The CoveproducerLouie Psihoyossaid:

“I just want to say it was an honor to work on this film and to try make an entertaining film that also tries to enlighten everybody. I have to thankJim Clarkwho financed the film and who was also kind of the guiding wisdom behind the film,Paula DuPre Presman, my producing partner, and my hero,Rick O’Barry, who is not only a hero to this species but to all species.”

We agree!

Shortly after the win, a few of our favorites took to Twitter to share their excitement, includingThe Biggest LosertrainerJillian Michaels, who said, “I AM SO GLAD THE COVE WON!!! Thank god. Please text Dolphin to 44144 to sign the petition to stop the slaughter of Dolphins from your phone.”

Are you excited aboutThe Cove’ssuccess? Chime in and share your thoughts!

Using the same rationale as Fox News, Colbert couldn’t help but point out that, due to it being nighttime, the city was covered in darkness. “Based on this latest data, we can only assume that the sun has been destroyed.” Who’s to blame for this “forever-night”? Gore, of course.

“We’re not ready for Christmas yet!” the whole family groused
They’d all been too busy working and living
Seems like only a day had passed since Thanksgiving!
But they knew they still wanted agreen holiday
So they prepared to celebrate thoughtfully – they could do it in just 1 day!

The youngest in the family logged on toInhabitat.com
For5 easy green holiday tipsto show dad and mom
They read all of thehelpful hintsand once they got the gist
It was a piece of cake to put together some greenlast minute gifts

They scoured through their pockets and found only dimes
So some madeDIY giftsand others gavegifts of time
Instead of wasteful paper they used festiveclothandtape
And to warm themselves up, they sat by theirpine scrap fireplace

After all theirgreen giftswere wrapped and ready to give
They put their heads together to come up withChristmas tree alternatives
Instead of using energy-intensive lights, they thought the choice was clear
They’d rather make atree out of 1,000 bottles of beer

ThenSanta pulled up in his eco-sleigh– what a crazy sight!

A Night at Hamlet’s Castle: Much Ado About … What?

December 13th, 2009 by Editor

Saturday night brought one of the plum events of Copenhagen, at least for the business crowd assembled in this city: a conference held at Kronborg, also known as Hamlet’s Castle. The four-hour program sported an impressive list of speakers, but I was left with nagging questions: How much are these business leaders being heard amid the cacophony of voices at theBella Centerback in Copenhagen, where the hard work of crafting a climate deal is being done? How much will these companies’ leadership roles factor into the delegates’ decision-making process?

The Daily Show With Jon Stewart Takes On “Climate Gate” Scandal

December 3rd, 2009 by Editor

key_art_the_daily_show_with_jon_stewart

Scandal, scandal, scandal — how you frustrate me so!

Last night onThe Daily Show,Jon Stewarttook a moment to comment on the latest controversy surrounding leaked emails written by a few top climate scientists. Out of the hundreds of thousands of sentences in these emails, climate change naysayers are pointing to a couple of the more incriminating ones to back their case that global warning doesn’t exist.

In one email, Director of Climate Research Phil Jones says:

“I’ve just completed Mike’s nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) and from 1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline.”

Oh, Lord!

To the scientists involved in the scandal, Jon Stewart offers these words of advice: “If you care about an issue and want to make it your life’s work, don’t cut corners! It’s disheartening for people inclined torwards the scientific method, and it’s catnip to these guys who are going to end of celebrating tonight, drunk, roaming the artic circle trying to skull f$#@ polar bears!”

Zombie Chair Ressurected By Hongtao Zhou

November 1st, 2009 by Editor

Zombie Chair, hongtau zhou, environmental art, halloween, green furniture, furniture design

Zombie chair! Out for your wood scraps! Oozing sawdust and pure carnage! Designer Hongtao Zhou, who we found  playing with ice, decided to get Holiday on a broken, abandoned chair he found on the streets in Madison, Wisconsin. The result: chair of the undead, risen from the swamp and demanding the chance to sit in your living room looking creepy. Zhou created the drippy effect with wood scraps and sawdust (and probably some monster blood and glue). Expect this chair on your front porch Halloween night, demanding all the sweet linseed oil you can muster. Happy creepy chair night, everyone, happy monster night.
